Painted Dog Conservation

The African Wild Dog, also known as the Painted Dog, is one of the most endangered large carnivores in the world. With fewer than 7,000 individuals remaining in the wild, the species is listed as Threatened on the IUCN Red List.

These animals face a wide range of threats:

  • Competition with dominant predators such as lions and hyenas
  • Diseases like rabies and canine distemper
  • Human-related dangers including snaring, poisoning, and traffic accidents

Many conflicts with local communities stem from misunderstanding and prejudice. That’s why Painted Dog Conservation (PDC) Zimbabwe plays a vital role in raising awareness and educating people about this unique species.

Kiezebrink is proud to support PDC Zimbabwe in their long-term mission to monitor and protect African Wild Dogs. Their work includes:

  • Employing over 60 local staff to run conservation and education programs
  • Operating an anti-poaching unit and a rehabilitation facility
  • Delivering outreach and school programs to build community support

As part of our support, Kiezebrink has funded educational bush camps for children from Chezhou and Songwa schools. These 4-day camps offer hands-on learning experiences, including close-up encounters with African Wild Dogs at the rehabilitation centre. The camps inspire future conservationists and strengthen local understanding of wildlife protection.

Painted Dog Conservation continues to make a meaningful impact. With ongoing support, they can expand their efforts and ensure a safer future for African Wild Dogs.
